There was a need for and a vision about a convenient suburb for military families which would include affordable homes, schools, recreations programs, parks and quick access to the Mountain Post. The area known as Security Village was soon developed by Fred Sproul who purchased the first dairy and truck farms in Fountain Valley. Hen Jules Watson purchased and developed additional farmand, Widefield was born.
The two neighborhoods have managed to come together through Widefield School District 3. There is no mayor or town council. The school district has been an instrumental factor in the maintenance of the library and parks in addition to delivering top tier education. In conjunction with the volunteer fire department, the school district has developed community activities for almost 60 years. Many of the original residents are now watching their great-grandchildren flourish as they raise their families in the Security-Widefield area.
