What To Do In Security, CO
Security, Colorado, known as Security-Widefield, is an unincorporated area that lies south of Colorado Springs in El Paso County.Frontier Boulevard divides Security-Widefield into two sections. Locally, Security is regarded as the section north of Fontaine Boulevard while Widefield is the southern section. The population is 32,882 asof 2013. While Security-Widefield is not a city, it ranked higher than its much larger neighbor,Colorado Springs, on a 2014 list of Colorado cites on the rise, published by the personal finance NerdWallet. The ranking was based on growth in employment, income and population from 2009 – 2012. Security-Widefield and the Colorado Springs suburb of Fountain make up the Fountain Valley community.
Security-Widefield was born out of the installation and expansion of Camp Carson, in 1942. There was a need for and a vision about a convenient suburb for military families which would include affordable homes, schools, recreations programs, parks and quick access to the Mountain Post. The area known as Security Village was soon developed by Fred Sproul who purchased the first dairy and truck farms in Fountain Valley. Hen Jules Watson purchased and developed additional farmand, Widefield was born.
The two neighborhoods have managed to come together through Widefield School District 3. There is no mayor or town council. The school district has been an instrumental factor in the maintenance of the library and parks in addition to delivering top tier education. In conjunction with the volunteer fire department, the school district has developed community activities for almost 60 years. Many of the original residents are now watching their great-grandchildren flourish as they raise their families in the Security-Widefield area.

The epitome of a small, hometown tavern, Shots offers great drinks at great prices. The neighborhood atmosphere is complete with dartboard, pool tables and a back patio with horseshoes. Shots also offers darts and pool leagues, along with poker tournaments. They also have a barbecue that they use for special occasions. Although Shots doesn’t have a kitchen, they do have a variety of snacks and often have homemade food available for their patrons.

Originally launched as a food truck, Le Flor De Jalisco is a beloved Mexican restaurant, not just in Security-Widefield but in Colorado Springs. This is a quiet and unassuming location with simple décor. Service is quick and servings are large. This is an absolute must when you are in the area and great for the entire family. Be sure to try the Carne Asada and the Al Pastor tacos.La Flor De Jalisco is so good, they could stand on their own in any city.
